Indian Cricket Team have suffered a major setback as their star all-rounder, Hardik Pandya, has been ruled out from the ODI World Cup 2023 due to an ankle injury.
Last month, Pandya suffered an injury when he seemingly twisted his left ankle while attempting to prevent a shot in follow-through during the opening over of his spell against Bangladesh on October 19. It is worth noting that Hardik was appointed as the vice-captain of the Rohit Sharma-led side before the World Cup 2023.
Hardik Pandya’s replacement
The BCCI announced fast bowler Prasidh Krishna as Pandya’s replacement for the remainder of the tournament. The 27-year-old cricketer has represented India in 17 ODIs and scalped 29 wickets with a healthy economy rate of 5.60.

The new vice-captain of India
According to various reports, the selection committee of the Indian team has named wicket-keeper batter KL Rahul as the new vice-captain of the squad. The reports further suggest that the information has been conveyed to Rahul by the former Indian cricketer Ajit Agarkar, who is currently serving as the chairman of the selection committee.
“The BCCI has appointed KL Rahul as the vice-captain of the Indian team for the remainder of the World Cup. He was informed about it on Saturday morning by chairman of selection committee, Ajit Agarkar, who is traveling with the team,” a BCCI official said as quoted by Indian Express.
Meanwhile, the Men in Blue are currently unbeaten in the ongoing ICC event and have successfully secured their birth in the semifinals by winning all the seven games they have played. The 2011 ODI World Cup champions are poised to face South Africa and The Netherlands in their remaining encounters of the league stage.
