In a strategic move ahead of the forthcoming South Africa T20 league (SA20), the Paarl Royals have officially announced the appointment of Shane Bond as their new Head Coach. The legendary former New Zealand fast bowler will bring his wealth of experience and cricketing insight to lead the franchise in the highly anticipated SA20 season.
Shane Bond replaces JP Duminy
Shane Bond steps into the shoes of the outgoing JP Duminy, who has transitioned to the role of Batting Coach for the South Africa Men’s Team. Known for his strategic brilliance and the ability to foster emerging talent, Bond’s coaching prowess has been widely acknowledged within the cricketing fraternity.
A dual role in the Royals franchise family
Bond’s association with the Royals franchise extends beyond Paarl, as he was recently appointed as the Assistant Coach and Fast Bowling Coach for the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL). His prior success as the Bowling Coach for the Mumbai Indians (MI), contributing to four IPL titles in nine seasons, underscores the value he brings to the coaching setup.
“Paarl Royals today announced the appointment of former New Zealand pacer Shane Bond as the new Head Coach for the 2024 season of South Africa’s incredible T20 league – the SA20. Bond replaces former South African all-rounder JP Duminy in the position, with the latter currently serving the national team,” wrote Paarl Royals in an official statement.
