In the world of social media, celebrities often find themselves under the scrutiny of keyboard warriors and trolls. Recently, South African cricket legend Jonty Rhodes faced the brunt of an internet troll who criticized him for not ordering food for his taxi driver. However, Rhodes, known for his sharp fielding skills, displayed his off-field prowess by responding with a savage reply that left the troll silenced.
Jonty’s Rhodes love for India
It is worth mentioning that the former Proteas cricketer Rhodes has a deep affection for India, and he often shares glimpses of his experiences in the country on social media. He even has accepted Goa as his new home, frequently explores different traditions, and enjoys diverse cuisines during his travels across the subcontinent.
Jonty recently delighted fans by posting a picture of himself relishing Mangalore bun and Mysore masala dosa at a Bengaluru restaurant, revealing that it was on the suggestion from his taxi driver at the airport.
When taxi driver at Bengaluru airport suggested to stop at his favourite restaurant for a roadside bite, because according to him: "traffic will be standing!" Grateful I took his advice. Excellent #mangalorebun and #Mysoremasaldosa, finished off with #masalachai #loveIndia pic.twitter.com/tH3KjykLUI

The trolling incident
While many appreciated the post, a troll took issue with Jonty not ordering food for his taxi driver and commented, “You could have ordered something for your taxi driver. Being a celebrity doesn’t give class.” Unfazed by the criticism, Rhodes responded with a no-nonsense retort that quickly shut down the detractor.
Jonty’s blunt response
Jonty came down hard on the troll and clarified that the person in the photo was a stranger, not his acquaintance. He explained that the photo was taken by his taxi driver, who chose to have only a cup of tea, voluntarily refraining from ordering anything for himself. The 54-year-old cricketer further disclosed that he personally covered the cost of the tea in a quirky manner to avoid any further discussion and concluded with a pointed hashtag of “#shameonyou” directed at the troll.
I have been sitting on this reply for a couple of days. The gentleman at my table is a stranger to me, and my driver was taking the picture. He did not eat, just ordered for me some of his favourite food. He just had tea, and yes, I did pay for it #shameonyou https://t.co/JPXphe60I3
