The 44th match of the ODI World Cup 2023 took place between England and Pakistan at Eden Gardens in Kolkata where the English team managed to register a victory by 93 runs and finished their campaign in the multi-team tournament on a high note. With the victory, England eliminated Pakistan from the competition and also secured berth in the 2025 Champions Trophy.

Ben Stokes lead England to a formidable total

Opting to bat after winning the toss, England set a formidable total of 337/9 in their allotted 50 overs. The English batting display was led by Ben Stokes, who played a scintillating innings of 84 runs off 76 balls, including 11 fours and 2 sixes.

Other notable contributions came from Jonny Bairstow (59), Joe Root (60), and Harry Brook (30). Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf were the pick of the bowlers for Pakistan, claiming 2 wickets each.

In response, Pakistan struggled to chase down the target, ultimately being bowled out for 244 in 43.3 overs. Agha Salman‘s resilient knock of 51 and Rauf’s aggressive 35 provided some resistance, but the English bowlers were relentless.

David Willey starred with the ball for England, picking up 3 wickets for 56 runs in his 10 overs. Gus Atkinson and Adil Rashid also made significant contributions, taking 2 wickets each. In the end, England emerged victorious, winning the match by a convincing margin of 93 runs.
