The ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 witnessed an amusing turn of events during the clash between Pakistan and New Zealand, as Pakistan seamer Hasan Ali experienced a comical moment when he dropped a catch from New Zealand all-rounder Mitchell Santner, granting the left-hander a fortunate reprieve.

In the final over of the first innings, a comical mishap took place as Hasan Ali, fielding at long-on, quickly ran to grab the ball, but as soon as he came near the white leather, he didn’t make any effort to complete the catch.

Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan, who was on air then, opined that Ali could have easily taken the catch as he had made his ground. Santner was given a lifeline, and he capitalized on it by smashing a six on the next ball. The Hamilton-born took his team total to 400-run mark, and himself remained unbeaten on 27 after facing 17 deliveries.

The incident sparked a wave of amusement and bewilderment among spectators, with the video of the comical drop making rounds on social media platforms eliciting a mix of laughter and surprise from cricket enthusiasts worldwide.

Despite the light-hearted moment, the match continued with fierce competition between the two teams as they battled for dominance in the high-stakes encounter. Both Pakistan and New Zealand remained focused on securing a favourable outcome in the crucial fixture.
