Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma once again showcased his renowned sense of humour during a press conference, leaving reporters and fans amused. The topic of discussion was the recently unveiled statue of cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Tendulkar’s legacy is deeply entwined with the Wankhede Stadium, where he played his final match in 2013 and achieved his lifelong dream of winning a World Cup title. To honor his iconic career, a statue was unveiled at the stadium on Wednesday, November 1.

Rohit Sharma’s hilarious response

During the press conference, Rohit, known for his light-hearted and witty responses, faced a question about his thoughts on the newly inaugurated statue and whether he had identified the specific shot that Tendulkar was depicted playing.

Rohit said he and other members of his team had seen the statue during the net session but couldn’t get a close look at it  because their practice session was delayed by their media manager. The Nagpur-born cricketer then playfully mentioned that he would have a closer look later.

“Practice pe jab pahuche toh humne dekhna statue par itne closely dekhne nahi mila kyun ki hum practice kar rhe the aur press conference itna delay karwa diya humare media manager ne (laughs). Toh itna pass se dekhne ko nahi mila. We came back, I finished my batting and I came here now. Par mauka milega acche se dekhne ka.(Yes, we saw it when we came to practice, but couldn’t see from close by. Our practice was also delayed by the media manager (laughs). But yeah, we will get to see it closely later,” said Rohit in the pre-match press conference ahead of India versus Sri Lanka game.

When asked about the shot depicted in the statue, Rohit joked that he wasn’t sure which shot it was, but since it was a statue of a straight lofted shot, he hoped everyone enjoyed it.

“Mujhe toh abhi yeh bhi nahi pata ki kaun sa shot hai vo. Ab kya bolu main usme? Straight lofted shot ka statue banaya hai wahan pe.(What more can I say, they have made a statue of straight lofted shot. It’s nice, I hope you guys enjoyed it, we saw the statue, it’s fantastic,” Rohit added.
