Rajasthan Royals (RR), despite early success in 2008, have struggled to secure additional trophy wins in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Road ahead for RR

Led by Sanju Samson, they finished fifth on the points table in 2023 edition. Notably, the team initiated the trading season this time by acquiring Avesh Khan from Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in exchange for Devdutt Padikkal. As they gear up for the upcoming season, the Royals will aim to secure impactful players who can potentially guide them to their second title victory.

6 players RR could bid for in IPL 2024 auction

1. Harry Brook:

  • Base Price: Rs 2 Crores
  • In the IPL Auction 2023, the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) acquired Harry Brook for Rs 13.25 Cr. However, his performance in that season was subpar, scoring 190 runs in 11 matches with an average of 21.11. Despite a century against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), the reshuffling of his batting order affected his overall impact. Released by Hyderabad ahead of IPL 2024, Brook could be a valuable addition to the Royals’ middle order with his power-hitting skills and exceptional fielding.

2. Jimmy Neesham:

  • Base Price: Rs 1.5 Crores
  • A key player for New Zealand, Neesham has had a bumpy IPL journey. Bought by Kings XI Punjab  in 2020 and later by Mumbai Indians (MI) in 2021, he was acquired by Royals in 2022 but didn’t play. In IPL 2023, he went unsold. The Royals might consider acquiring the services of this Kiwi all-rounder again, given his potential contribution with both bat and ball in the lower middle order.

3. Daryl Mitchell:

  • Base Price: Rs 1 Crore
  • Bought by the Royals in 2022, Daryl Mitchell played only two games, scoring a combined total of 33 runs. Despite going unsold in IPL 2023, Mitchell gained prominence in the ODI World Cup 2023. Rajasthan could capitalize on his recent success, acquiring the services of this New Zealand all-rounder to strengthen their squad.

4. Gus Atkinson:

  • Bought by KKR in 2022, Umesh Yadav had a great season for the franchise, taking 16 wickets in 12 matches. Nevertheless, IPL 2023 wasn’t as successful for him. Released by KKR, Rajasthan might consider using Yadav’s new ball expertise to provide crucial breakthroughs in games.

  • Base Price: Rs 50 Lakhs
  • India’s only second Test triple centurion, Karun Nair, was released by the Royals in 2022. Despite a decline in his IPL career, Nair showcased brilliant form in the recent T20 tournament the Maharaja KSCA T20 Trophy, scoring a century in the semi-final. With experience in both middle-order and top-order batting, his recent good form makes him an attractive option for Rajasthan in the IPL 2024 auction.
