In a significant turn of events, Afghanistan‘s pacer Naveen-ul-Haq has faced a big setback as he has been handed a 20-month ban by the UAE’s ILT20. The suspension stems from violating his player agreement, marking a considerable blow to his participation in the famous League.

This decision renders Naveen ineligible to compete in the ILT20 for 2024 and 2025. The interlude underscores the importance of upholding player agreements and maintaining the integrity of the sport, serving as a reminder that professional conduct is paramount in the world of cricket.

The exact reason behind Naveen’s suspension

Naveen, who featured for Sharjah Warriors in the tournament’s 2023 edition, declined to endorse the retention notice for the forthcoming second season of the tournament scheduled for January- February of the upcoming year.

Sharing their stance on the scenario, ILT20’s CEO David White regretted announcing the ban on the 24-year-old, emphasizing the importance of all parties complying with contractual commitments. White highlighted that the decision was not taken lightly, he underlined the necessity for recognizing and honouring contractual obligations to prevent harm to the involved parties.

“We do not take pride in making this announcement but all parties are expected to comply with their contractual commitments and recognize that non-compliance can cause damage to the other party. Unfortunately, Naveen-ul-Haq failed to honour his contractual obligations with the Sharjah Warriors, and as such, the League had no option but to impose this 20-month ban on him,” White said, as quoted by ESPN Cricinfo.

What’s next for Naveen?

Naveen is all set to participate in the South Africa‘s SA20 League, which is scheduled to take place almost simultaneously with the forthcoming season of ILT20. The Kabul-born cricketer has inked a deal with Durban Super Giants, a team affiliated with the group that owns the IPL franchise Lucknow Super Giants, of which the latter is also a part.
