In a crucial moment during Day 1 of the first Test between Australia and Pakistan at Optus Stadium in Perth, Abdullah Shafique missed a simple chance to dismiss Australian opener Usman Khawaja.
Missed opportunity: Abdullah Shafique’s slip catch Blunder
The incident occurred on the first ball of the 16th over bowled by Aamir Jamal. As Khawaja attempted a pull shot, the ball took a top edge, looping over the slip cordon. Shafique, positioned in the slip cordon, moved backward to claim the catch. Despite getting into a good position, Shafique failed to track the ball’s trajectory, allowing it to evade through the gap between his outstretched palms and body. Unfortunately, the missed catch resulted in the ball bouncing away for a boundary, compounding the fielding error.
