His exceptional skill and ability were evident from the very start, as he, alongside Khurram Shahzad, claimed key wickets on both Day 1 and Day 2 of the match. Jamal’s remarkable debut was highlighted by his early dismissal of the formidable David Warner on the opening day.
Continuing his impactful spell, the 27-year-old also accounted for the wickets of Travis Head, Alex Carey, Mitchell Starc and Australia captain Pat Cummins. The final wicket of Australia’s innings fell also to Jamal in form of Nathan Lyon, securing his sixth wicket and completing a memorable debut performance.
Key wickets on Day 1: David Warner and Travis Head dismissals
On Day 1 of the Test, Jamal’s accurate and incisive bowling got the better of Warner and Head. Warner’s mistimed hook shot resulted in a catch taken by Imam-ul-Haq at deep backward square, setting the tone for Jamal’s impactful debut. Shortly after, Head fell victim to Jamal’s bowling skills as he attempted a cut but ended up holing out to the third-man fielder.

Dominant bowling display on Day 2: Removing Alex Carey, Mitchell Starc and others
Continuing his stellar performance on Day 2, Jamal further stamped his authority on the game by claiming four more crucial wickets. His dismissal of wicketkeeper-batter Carey was a stellar of a delivery as he angled the ball perfectly on the off-stump, beating Carey’s defense and disturbing the timber. Subsequently, the Mianwali-born cricketer went on to dismiss attacking batter Starc, adding another feather to his cap.
The highlight of his spell came with the fifth wicket, that of Australian skipper. Cummins, attempting to force off the back foot, found himself caught at first slip as Salman Ali Agha showcased sharp fielding, securing the catch with precision. Lyon was also dismissed in the similar fashion.

Historic achievement and comparisons with Arif Butt
Jamal’s outstanding six-wicket haul on Australian soil places him in an exclusive club, with Arif Butt being the only other Pakistani to achieve this feat back in 1964 at Melbourne. As Australia reached a formidable 487, the visitors will look to reply strongly with the bat.
