In a recent development, the All India Senior Selection Committee has announced alterations to the men’s ODI and Test squads for the ongoing tour of South Africa.

Fast bowler Mohammed Shami, who was anticipated to feature in the two-match Test series starting December 26, has been declared unfit by the BCCI Medical Team. Consequently, Shami will miss the Test matches against South Africa.

“Mohammed Shami, whose participation in the Test series was subject to fitness has not been cleared by the BCCI Medical Team and the fast bowler is ruled out of the two Tests,” BCCI said in a press release.

Deepak Chahar withdraws from the ODI series against South Africa

In another change, seamer Deepak Chahar has withdrawn from the ODI leg due to a family emergency. Akash Deep, currently with the India A squad competing against South Africa A, has been named as Chahar’s replacement.

The BCCI stated, “Deepak Chahar has informed the BCCI that he will not be available for the upcoming ODI series due to a family medical emergency. The Men’s Selection Committee has named Mr Akash Deep as his replacement.”

Moreover, middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer will be available only for the first ODI of the three-match series. After the conclusion of the first ODI in Johannesburg on December 17, Iyer will join the red-ball squad to prepare for the two World Test Championship (WTC) Tests. He won’t be available for the second and third ODIs but will take part in the inter-squad game.
