The recently concluded T20I series between India and South Africa not only treated cricket fans to thrilling on-field action but also witnessed the emergence of a revamped version of BCCI’s ‘Best Fielder’ award from the the ODI World Cup 2023 as they introduced a new ‘Impact Fielder of the Series’ medal. The prestigious title was secured by fiery pacer Mohammed Siraj for leaving a lasting impact with his exceptional fielding skills throughout the series.

As far as the contest between India and South Africa is concerned, the three-match series ended in a draw, with the first game washed out due to rain and the subsequent matches seeing one victory for each team.

The decider was a must-win game for India, and they rose to the occasion with a stellar performance in both batting and bowling. However, it was the Men in Blue’s fielding prowess that truly stood out and played a pivotal role in securing the series.

The award presentation ceremony was a moment of pride for Siraj, and he received the medal from India’s fielding coach, T Dilip, who praised his perseverance and dedication, highlighting his consistent efforts in one match and throughout the series.

“We often talk about making a difference in the field. Not just in one match, but throughout the series. And the perseverance at which he worked throughout the World Cup and still the way, after he bowls an over, comes back, dives, and throws the ball back. Today he made a difference with his direct hit, yesterday, boundary line awareness catch. The winner would be none other than – Mohammed Siraj,” said Dilip.

Siraj’s heartwarming reaction

The joy and satisfaction on Siraj’s face were evident as he embraced the coach in a warm hug. In his heartwarming reaction, Siraj revealed that he had been eyeing this medal since the ODI World Cup, emphasizing the never-give-up spirit that has become synonymous with his cricketing journey.

“Should I say something? This is not a medal… I was waiting for this medal since the World Cup and I have finally got it. The lesson to take away from here is – never give up,” said Siraj.
