In a rather unexpected twist at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 auction, held at Dubai’s Coca-Cola Arena on Tuesday, December 19, the Punjab Kings (PBKS) found themselves entangled in an inadvertent blunder. The incident transpired during the fast-bowler’s segment of the auction, specifically when PBKS was actively seeking to secure the services of uncapped Indian cricketers.

Amidst the successful acquisitions of Ashutosh Sharma and Vishwanath Pratap Singh, a moment of confusion unfolded during the bidding for Shashank Singh. PBKS inadvertently placed a winning bid for Shashank, only to realize they had unintentionally committed to a player they didn’t intend to acquire.

In response to the unexpected mishap, the PBKS management promptly issued a clarification, shedding light on the circumstances surrounding the acquisition and aiming to provide transparency amidst the auction developments.

Punjab Kings’ clarification

PBKS clarified that Shashank was a targeted player for them, addressing the confusion arising from two players sharing the same name on the list. Expressing delight in having him on board, the team mentioned that they look forward to Shashank contributing to their success.

“Punjab Kings would like to clarify that Shashank Singh was always on our target list. The confusion was due to 2 players of the same name being on the list. We are delighted to have him onboard and see him contribute to our success. PBKS wrote on X.
