The eagerly awaited auction for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 is scheduled to unfold on December 19 in Dubai. As the cricketing world gears up for this prestigious event, numerous players, including familiar faces, have registered themselves for the bidding extravaganza.
In recent developments, all 10 IPL franchises have disclosed their lists of retained and released players. Among them, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) stands out for releasing a considerable number of players, particularly from their bowling unit.
RCB’s focus on bowling
With the addition of Cameron Green to their squad, RCB’s primary focus at the upcoming auction revolves around strengthening their bowling department. In light of this, former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan has identified a spinner whom he believes RCB should target.

Irfan Pathan reveals his choice
Pathan suggested that RCB should consider acquiring Mujeeb Ur Rahman at the IPL 2024 auction if they are unable to reacquire Wanindu Hasaranga at a more affordable price. Notably, RCB released Hasaranga, who had originally been signed for a substantial INR 10.75 crore.
“If you look at their squad, with Cameron Green coming in, they have their biggest headache sorted. The middle muddle is sorted. They will have to sort out their bowling. If they can get Hasaranga back at a cheaper price, well and good,” said Pathan on Star Sports.
Pathan highlighted Mujeeb’s ability to bowl with the new ball, coupled with the element of mystery that defines his bowling. The Afghanistan star’s capability to neutralize the impact of the pitch makes him a valuable asset, according to Pathan.
“If not, they can go for guys like Mujeeb. Mujeeb is a guy who can actually take the pitch away from the equation. He is basically a mystery bowler who can bowl with the new ball and he can be pretty handy in those sorts of tough conditions for bowlers,” he added.
