Karachi Kings, the 2020 champions in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), have announced Shan Masood as the captain for the upcoming ninth edition of the tournament.
Karachi Kings appoints new captain for PSL 9
The declaration related to captaincy was made by the Kings owner Salman Iqbal ahead of the new edition of PSL.
“Shan Masood will head Karachi Kings this year. He is our Test team captain but also has captained many sides including Multan Sultans and Yorkshire. We think that our captain should be from Karachi,” Salman was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
Few days ago in a strategic move, the Kings secured the services of Pakistan’s new Test captain Masood through a trade deal with Multan Sultans. The deal involved parting ways with spinner Faisal Akram. The Kings who in search of a captain following the departure of all-rounder Imad Wasim, opted for the experienced leadership of Masood.

Shan Masood’s impactful stint with Multan Sultans
Masood had previously captained the Sultans in the 2020 edition and was a crucial member of their title-winning squad in 2021. As a left-handed batter, Masood showcased his prowess in that winning PSL season by accumulating 209 runs from seven games, ranking as the third-highest run-scorer for Sultans. Having amassed 1,318 runs from 42 matches in the competition, Masood brings a wealth of experience to the captaincy role.
Phil Simmons joins as head coach: Strengthening the coaching staff
The Kings have also bolstered their coaching staff by appointing Phil Simmons as the Head Coach few days ago. Known for his dual role as a star player and successful coach of the West Indies during the T20 World Cup 2016, Simmons adds strategic prowess and seasoned leadership to the the Kings’ setup. The franchise looks forward to a dynamic and successful campaign under the guidance of Masood and Simmons in the upcoming PSL season.
