In a highly anticipated development, some of the cricket world’s most prominent figures have thrown their hats into the ring for the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction, as reported by Cricbuzz. The auction, set to unfold in Dubai on December 19, has garnered immense attention, with a total of 1166 players vying for a coveted spot in the cash-rich league.

No Jofra Archer but Mitchell Starc set to make a comeback

Notably absentee in the list was England speedster Jofra Archer. He was recently released by five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI).

While Jofra’s exclusion has raised eyebrows, the auction still boasts an array of marquee names, including Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Travis Head, Daryl Mitchell and Rachin Ravindra. Despite not being available for the full season, Josh Hazlewood has also thrown his name into the mix.

4 Indian players set their base price to INR 2 crore

Among the extensive list of players, 830 are Indian, while 336 hail from foreign countries. The Indian contingent features only 18 capped players, each eyeing a lucrative IPL contract.

The seasoned Indian players on the roster include Chetan Sakariya, Dhawal Kulkarni, Hanuma Vihari, Harshal Patel, Karun Nair, KS Bharat, Kedar Jadhav, Manish Pandey, Jaydev Unadkat, Shivam Mavi, Shardul Thakur, Shahbaz Nadeem and Umesh Yadav.

Interestingly, only four of these capped Indian players – Harshal Patel, Kedar Jadhav, Shardul Thakur and Umesh Yadav – recently released by their respective franchises, have set their base price at a maximum of Rs 2 crore. The remaining 14 players will be available at the reserve price of Rs 50 lakh.

Meanwhile, franchisees have been asked to submit a final list of players from the registered names they want to bid for at the auction, as only 77 slots are to be filled, and a maximum of 30 can be overseas players among those.
