The decision by Mumbai Indians (MI) management to replace Rohit Sharma with Hardik Pandya as the captain for the upcoming 2024 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has triggered a wave of discontent among fans. Social media platforms witnessed a surge in campaigns expressing support for Rohit, and MI faced a substantial loss of followers across various online channels.

Rumours of trade and cryptic reactions

Amidst the controversy surrounding Rohit’s removal as captain, speculations about Mumbai Indians planning to trade Rohit and other key players of the franchise began circulating. Notably, players like Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ishan Kishan added fuel to the fire by posting cryptic reactions on social media. The cryptic posts hinted at a potential rift within the team regarding the management’s decision.

Mumbai Indians react on the rumours

Putting an end to the swirling rumours, Mumbai Indians have finally broken their silence. The franchise categorically denied any rift within the MI camp and clarified that Rohit will continue to be an integral part of the team. According to MI officials, all players, including Rohit, were consulted before the decision was made.

“Rohit is not going anywhere, nor will any player. The news reports are totally fake and false. No MI player will be leaving us, nor will be traded by us. Every player was taken into confidence before the decision was made. Rohit too was informed, and he is very much part of the decision-making process,” an MI official stated, as quoted by Cricbuzz.
