In a recent revelation, cricket icon Simon Doull has lauded an Indian cricketer for exhibiting unparalleled selflessness on the field, a trait rarely seen in the sport. Doull, a respected cricket commentator and former New Zealand fast bowler, commended the player’s ability to put the team first, contributing significantly to India’s recent successes.
Simon Doull picks the selfless Indian cricketer
Reflecting on the player’s performance over the past 10-18 months, Doull emphasized the cricketer’s commitment to the team’s success. The former Black Caps cricketer named Indian captain Rohit Sharma as his pick, terming him as the most selfless Indian player.
Doull highlighted Rohit’s adaptability and strategic approach, noting how he tailored his game to benefit the team as a whole, especially in white-ball cricket.
“It will be about tempering his game a little bit. The one thing I have observed about Rohit Sharma in the last 10-18 months is that he has probably been the most selfless Indian cricketer I have seen in a long, long time. He has done everything he possibly could for his team to win. He made this team, he played in a certain way to allow the others in the team to be able to play the way they play, in white-ball cricket in particular,” Doull said in a chat with Star Sports.

Doull expects the Indian star to shine in Test series
Doull also praised Rohit’s pivotal role in setting the tone at the top of the order during the recent World Cup. By adopting an aggressive yet strategic approach, the Indian skipper allowed the middle order to flourish and play to their strengths. While advocating for a slight adjustment in Rohit’s game, Doull expressed his desire for the star Indian cricketer to maintain his trademark aggression in the upcoming Test series against South Africa.
“In the World Cup, we saw that he set the tone at the top of the order, which allowed the middle order to play the way they played. So, it’s a slight change for him, not too much. I still want him to be that aggressive Rohit Sharma. We do see it in Test matches,” added Doull.
