In the second match of the three-match T20I series between New Zealand and Bangladesh at Bay Oval, all eyes were on the intense showdown following New Zealand’s humbling defeat in the first clash. Amidst the action, a particular incident captured the attention of spectators, involving a formidable blow dealt by Daryl Mitchell to his teammate Tim Seifert.
The powerful shot delivered by Mitchell not only showcased the intense nature of the contest but also led to a moment of concern as Seifert found himself on the receiving end. This unforeseen twist injected an element of drama into the match, momentarily overshadowing the broader narrative of the series.
Daryl Mitchell’s deadly blow to Tim Seifert
The dramatic incident unfolded during the fifth ball of the second over when Shoriful Islam bowled a full-length delivery to Mitchell. Responding with a powerful shot, the right-handed batter sent the white leather hurtling straight towards the non-striker’s end, inadvertently colliding with his teammate Seifert’s helmet. The impact drastically forced the cricketer to the ground.
As the ball rebounded to Islam, he found himself in a comfortable position to run out the fallen batter. However, in a display of sportsmanship and concern for his fellow player, the seamer refrained from pursuing the dismissal. Instead, he opted to check on Seifert’s well-being, recognizing the gravity of the situation.
