Pakistan faced a significant setback as their star spinner, Abrar Ahmed, has been ruled out of the first Test against Australia, scheduled to commence on December 14 at Optus Stadium in Perth. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) swiftly named a replacement for Abrar.
Injury woes: Abrar Ahmed faces exit from the first Test against Australia
Although Abrar bowled 27 overs and picked up a wicket in the four-day practice match against PM XI, he complained of pain in his right leg on Day 3 and subsequently left the field. Scans later revealed an injury, leading to his exclusion from the first Test. The PCB clarified that Abrar is not ruled out of the entire Test series but only from the initial Test in Perth. His availability for the second Test will depend on a complete medical assessment. The PCB will closely monitor Abrar’s recovery for a decision on his participation in the subsequent Test games against Australia.
“During an assessment by the medical team, a provisional diagnosis was made – justifying an MRI scan, which was done on the same day. Abrar will undergo an intervention in Perth on Monday, after which conservative rehabilitation under the supervision of the team’s medical staff, will continue his road to recovery. He has not been ruled out of the test series yet, but keeping the player’s well-being in mind for this and future tours, further assessment before the second test will ascertain his availability on this tour,” PCB said in a press release.

Pakistan Cricket Board announces Abrar’s replacement
In response to Abrar’s absence, off-spinner Sajid Khan has been named as his replacement for the first Test in Perth. The 30-year-old will travel to Australia once the visa process is completed, aiming to fill the void left by Abrar in the spin department.
“Meanwhile, the chairman of the selection committee Wahab Riaz on the request made by the team management has approved the name of off-spinner Sajid Khan. Sajid will travel to Perth once his travel arrangement is finalized,” the press release concluded.
