The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 mini-auction, held at Dubai’s Coca-Cola Arena on Tuesday, marked a pivotal moment for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Equipped with a budget of INR 23.15, RCB approached the auction with a well-defined mission—to strategically fortify their squad and address critical gaps for the upcoming season. Key acquisitions and squad strengthening by RCB
While facing disappointment in the bidding for Australia captain Pat Cummins, who joined Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for INR 20.5 crore, RCB demonstrated unwavering determination in pursuing key players. The West Indies pacer, Alzarri Joseph, emerged as a prime target, leading to a fierce bidding war involving Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Delhi Capitals (DC) and Lucknow Super Kings (LSG). In a triumph of determination, RCB secured Joseph’s services for an impressive INR 11.5 crore.
Adding to their arsenal, Yash Dayal, released by Gujarat Titans (GT) before the auction, was acquired by RCB for INR 5 crore. To further enhance their squad, RCB strategically brought in England all-rounder Tom Curran for INR 1.5 crore and New Zealand‘s speedster Lockie Ferguson for INR 2 crore during the accelerator round. The team also picked Swapnil Singh and Saurav Chauhan for their base price of INR 20 lakh to complete their squad for IPL 2024.
