Shreyanka Patil, Saika Ishaque earn maiden India call-up

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), on Friday, announced the Women’s T20I and Test squads for the forthcoming home series against England and Australia.

Shreyanka Patil, Saika Ishaque earn maiden call-up

Emerging talents from the Women’s Premier League (WPL), Shreyanka Patil and Saika Ishaque, have earned their maiden call-ups for the three-match T20I series against England, set to commence on December 6 in Mumbai. Additionally, the squad sees the return of medium-pacer Renuka Singh, who has overcome a stress injury.

Patil’s stellar performance in WPL and CPL

Patil, a standout performer for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in her inaugural WPL campaign, has impressed selectors with her outstanding skills. Notably, she made history as the first Indian to participate in the Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL), emerging as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker while representing Guyana Amazon Warriors. Currently, Patil is part of the India A squad for the three-match T20 series against England A.

Ishaque’s left-arm spin prowess

Left-arm spinner Ishaque played a pivotal role in Mumbai Indians’ triumphant run to the inaugural WPL title in March. Ishaque’s stellar performance saw her finish as the joint second-highest wicket-taker in the tournament, claiming an impressive tally of 15 wickets.

Test debut anticipation for Renuka, Ishaque, and Jemimah Rodrigues

The upcoming Test series against England and Australia is poised to witness the debut of Renuka and Ishaque, alongside Jemimah Rodrigues. The trio has been included in the 15-member squad for the two consecutive Test matches, marking India’s return to home Tests after a hiatus since November 2014.

Renuka will lead the pace attack in Tests, supported by Titas Sadhu, Meghna Singh, and all-rounder Pooja Vastrakar. The experienced off-spinning all-rounder Sneh Rana makes a comeback in the whites. Harmanpreet Kaur will continue to lead the Women in Blue in both T20Is and Tests, with Smriti Mandhana serving as her deputy.
