Sri Lanka Cricket has taken a significant step towards revitalizing its national teams by announcing a new selection committee. The panel, entrusted with the responsibility of handpicking the best talents for the Islanders, is set to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the country’s cricketing landscape.

Chairman

Former skipper Upul Tharanga has been named the chairman of the newly formed committee. A seasoned campaigner, Tharanga, with a wealth of cricketing experience, brings leadership skills and a deep understanding of the game to the forefront. His appointment signifies a commitment to a strategic and knowledgeable approach in selecting the nation’s cricketing representatives.

Other notable members

Working in harmony with Tharanga, the team boasts diverse cricketing expertise. Indika De Saram, a well known former cricketer, contributes a keen eye for talent identification honed through years of experience.

First task for the committee

The initial task confronting the committee is the formation of the national squad for the upcoming Zimbabwe tour of Sri Lanka in 2024. Scheduled to commence on 3 January, the tour will kick off with a three-match ODI series starting from 6 January. Subsequently, a three-match T20I series is set to unfold from 14 to 18 January.
