In a dazzling display of cricketing prowess, South Africa Women notched a commanding victory over Bangladesh Women in the third and final ODI of the Bangladesh Women tour of South Africa 2023 at Willowmoore Park.
Laura Wolvaardt, Tazmin Brits sizzle with remarkable tons
Opting to bat first after winning the toss, South Africa Women put on a spectacular show, posting an imposing total of 316/4 in their allotted 50 overs. The star attractions of the innings were undoubtedly Laura Wolvaardt and Tazmin Brits, both of whom showcased their batting brilliance by notching up breathtaking centuries.
Wolvaardt, with her elegant strokeplay, mesmerized the crowd with a sublime knock of 126 runs off 134 balls. Her innings featured 13 boundaries and a towering six, leaving the Bangladesh bowlers grappling for answers.
Not to be outdone, Brits complemented Wolvaardt’s brilliance with an equally stunning century of her own. Brits blazed her way to 118 runs off 124 deliveries, punctuating her innings with 8 fours and 2 sixes. The duo’s partnership laid the foundation for South Africa’s imposing total, and the Bangladeshi bowlers found it challenging to contain the onslaught.

The other South African batters also made valuable contributions, with Sune Luus (34 runs) and Anneke Bosch (28 runs) chipping in to propel the team to a commanding position.
Disciplined bowling outdone Bangladesh batters
In response, Bangladesh Women faced an uphill battle, attempting to chase down the daunting target set by the South Africans. However, the story of the day belonged to the South African bowlers, who, buoyed by their team’s stellar batting performance, dismantled the opposition.
The South African bowling unit, led by Ayabonga Khaka, put on a clinical display. Khaka’s three-wicket haul for just 15 runs in her six overs left Bangladesh reeling. Marizanne Kapp and Nadine de Klerk also played pivotal roles, claiming two wickets each and further dampening Bangladesh’s hopes.
As the innings progressed, it became increasingly evident that South Africa’s Wolvaardt and Brits had set an insurmountable target. Bangladesh Women could only muster 100 runs before being bowled out in 31.1 overs, succumbing to the relentless pressure exerted by the South African bowlers. In the end, South Africa Women emerged victorious by a resounding margin of 216 runs.
