In the rain-marred opening clash, Bangladesh encountered 44-run defeat in the first ODI of their tour to New Zealand. The match, plagued by interruptions, saw rain disrupt play on three occasions, ultimately leading to the decision to reduce the game to a 30-over contest per side. Despite the challenging conditions, the Blackcaps emerged victorious, clinching a 1-0 lead in the three-game series.

Will Young and Tom Latham lead the charge with bat

New Zealand faced early setbacks as Rachin Ravindra, and Henry Nicholls fell prey to Shoriful Islam in the first over. Despite the early trouble for the hosts, the hopes of sustained joy for Bangladesh were quashed as Tom Latham and Will Young forged an impressive partnership, amassing 171 runs for the third wicket.

Latham displayed skilful batting, accumulating 92 runs off 77 balls, while Young emerged as the standout performer, notching up his third ODI century with a stellar 105 runs off 84 deliveries. The late contributions of Mark Chapman, who scored 20 off 11 balls, and 19 extras added to the score, helped the Kiwis post a challenging score of 239/7 in 30 overs, marked by several run-outs executed by the rivals in the final stages of the innings.
