As the cricketing world gears up for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 auction, veteran West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder finds himself in the spotlight. Released by Rajasthan Royals (RR) ahead of the bidding event, Holder, a seasoned campaigner, is now eyeing a return to the cash-rich league with specific preferences for his potential teams.

Jason Holder’s flop show for Rajasthan Royals

Holder, who represented Rajasthan in the IPL 2023 season, faced a challenging stint, scoring only 12 runs and taking four wickets in eight matches. The all-rounder’s performance led to his release from the Royals, but given his proven track record and all-round abilities, Holder is poised to attract significant attention in the upcoming IPL auction.

Potential hot commodity in IPL 2024 auction

With a base price of INR 1 crore, Holder’s skills make him an attractive prospect for franchises seeking an experienced all-rounder. The 32-year-old cricketer’s previous performances, coupled with his vast experience, position him as a potential hot commodity in the IPL 2024 bidding event.

Holder’s preferred choices

In an interaction with ANI, Holder revealed his interest in returning to familiar territories, expressing a desire to play for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) or Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the upcoming IPL season. Holder had previously represented both teams and reminisced about having a ‘nice time’ with them.

“I have had a good time with Sunrisers (Hyderabad) and Chennai (Super Kings) as well. One of those two teams would be nice to go back to but it is not in my hands,” said Holder.

Holder had represented the Super Kings in the 2013 season, featuring in six games and taking two wickets. He later moved to Sunrisers, where the star all-rounder played a total of 16 games and picked up an impressive 31 scalps.

International cricket should be the priority: Holder

Speaking on the broader context of franchise cricket, Holder emphasized the need for players to understand the importance of international cricket before delving into franchise-based tournaments. He acknowledged that while franchise cricket has its place, it is crucial for players to prioritize their commitments on the international stage.

“I think it has its place. I think it is important to understand the importance of international cricket. I don’t think if international cricket existed none of these leagues would be possible. I think it’s important to understand your work on the international stage and then branch into franchise cricket,” Holder added.
