The second Test between Australia and West Indies commenced at the Gabba in Brisbane today, with the visitors winning the toss and choosing to bat. However, a peculiar moment during the national anthem caught the attention of fans and spectators alike.

Cameron Green’s unusual position

As players from both teams gathered for the national anthem on a sunny day, Australian all-rounder Cameron Green was observed standing a couple of meters away from his teammates. This raised questions among fans on social media, wondering why Green was in such a distinct position.

Reason behind Green’s stance

The reason behind Green’s unusual stance was soon clarified – he had tested positive for COVID-19. Despite his positive test, Green was included in the final XI, alongside Travis Head, who had also battled COVID leading up to the game but had sufficiently recovered. Consequently, Green was mandated to follow strict COVID protocols throughout the match, including using a separate changing room away from his teammates.

Contrasting scenarios with Moises Henriques

Interestingly, this situation contrasts with the recently-concluded Big Bash League (BBL) final between Sydney Sixers and Brisbane Heat, where Moises Henriques played despite being COVID positive. Henriques actively participated in the match, exchanging fist bumps and high fives with teammates, although he refrained from speaking during the post-match presentation following his team’s loss to the Heat.
