Former South African captain, Faf du Plessis, is contemplating a return to the national side for the T20 World Cup 2024. Leading the Johannesburg Super Kings (JSK) in the SA20 league, scheduled from January 10 to February 10, Du Plessis sees this as a potential opportunity for one last shot at global glory.
Faf du Plessis aims for comeback
While Du Plessis retired from Test cricket, the white-ball format still holds allure for the seasoned cricketer. During a captain’s press conference before the SA20’s second season, when asked if the tournament would serve as a platform for a final shot at a global trophy. Du plessis replied that the ultimate breakthrough is primarily centered around recovering from an injury and anticipating the return to cricket. Clearly, the paramount focus is on the tournament, and my main objective is to ensure that I deliver a strong performance on the field.
“Final crack… it is first about getting back from injury, looking forward to playing cricket again,” Du Plessis was quoted as saying by The Times of India.
“Obviously, the tournament is the most important thing, I just want to make sure I play good cricket. It is a great time for us to be still involved in the game. Then we’ll see what happens after that,” the 39-year-old concluded.
