The upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 is generating immense excitement among cricket enthusiasts, with the tournament scheduled to kick off in June. Spanning across multiple venues in the West Indies and the USA, the competition is set to showcase the prowess of 20 cricketing nations in a total of 55 matches.
High expectations from Team India
As the cricketing fraternity gears up for the T20 World Cup, all eyes are on Team India, the winners of the inaugural edition of this prestigious tournament. With the event taking place in the Windies and the United States, experts anticipate spinners to play a pivotal role, given the favorable conditions.
Harbhajan Singh picks his spinners for the Men in Blue
Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh, a renowned off-spinner in his playing days, has weighed in on Team India’s spin combination for the upcoming mega-event. Singh named his top three spinners, with Yuzvendra Chahal earning the nod as his first choice.
Despite being overlooked in the recent T20I series against Afghanistan, Harbhajan expressed his confidence in Yuzvendra’s abilities.
“I would keep Yuzvendra Chahal ahead (for the first slot among spinners). He is being ignored; I don’t know why. I don’t think he knows as well. But even today, I don’t think there is a better leg-spinner in the country. And I don’t think there is a braver spinner than him. He has a very sharp mind,” said Harbhajan as quoted by Hindustan Times.

Observations on pitch conditions
Harbhajan further added Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar to complete the trio of spinners for Team India in the T20 World Cup. He also emphasized the importance of having a diverse spin attack. Harbhajan also drew attention to the pitch conditions in the West Indies and the USA, suggesting they would be akin to Asian conditions.
“The second spinner for me would be Ravindra Jadeja. You need to have an off-spinner in Washington Sundar as well. Now, what selectors think, what the management thinks, is a different thing. Pitches will be pretty similar, like India. Spinners will play a big role. I’ve been to the West Indies on many occasions, and I’ve seen there’s always something for the spinners. Hence, it is important to pick the right attack,” added Bhajji.
