Team India’s preparations for the second Test against England have hit a snag with the news of two key players being ruled out due to injuries. Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul, pivotal members of the squad, will be sidelined for the upcoming match, prompting swift action from the selection committee to bolster the team’s resources.
Ravindra Jadeja’s hamstring injury
The setback for Team India unfolded during the recent first Test in Hyderabad, where Jadeja sustained a hamstring injury while batting on Day 4. Despite efforts to assess the severity of the injury, scans have confirmed his unavailability for the forthcoming Test match.
KL Rahul’s quadriceps pain
In another blow to the team, Rahul has been sidelined due to right quadriceps pain. This complaint, though seemingly less severe, has nevertheless ruled him out of contention for the second Test, leaving the team management with significant gaps to address.
Replacements announced
In response to these setbacks, the selection committee wasted no time in announcing replacements to bolster the squad. Sarfaraz Khan, Saurabh Kumar, and Washington Sundar have been drafted into the squad to fill the void left by Jadeja and Rahul’s absence.

“Mr. Ravindra Jadeja and Mr. KL Rahul have been ruled out of the second IDFC First Bank Test against England in Vizag, starting February 02, 2024,” read the BCCI media release.
“Jadeja sustained a hamstring injury during play on Day 4 of the first Test in Hyderabad while Rahul complained of a right quadriceps pain. The BCCI Medical Team is monitoring the progress of the duo. The Men’s Selection Committee have added Sarfaraz Khan, Sourabh Kumar and Washington Sundar to India’s squad,” the release added.
