As the eagerly anticipated Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 approaches, deliberations on team compositions have kicked off, with players showcasing their prowess in T20 tournaments globally. In a noteworthy development, AB de Villiers, a distinguished figure in the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)‘s hall of fame, has conveyed a significant message to the franchise, singling out an essential player who could potentially be the X-factor.
AB de Villiers identifies RCB’s ‘X-Factor’ in IPL 2024
According to De Villiers, the England cricketer Will Jacks possesses all the necessary abilities and the elusive X-factor to emerge as a match-winner for RCB. While Jacks was secured by RCB in the IPL 2023 mini auction for INR 3.2 Crore, an unfortunate injury prevented the Englishman from participating in the season. However, given his recent exceptional performances, De Villiers envisioned Jacks as a potential game-changer for RCB in IPL 2024.
“Jacks has not played a game for RCB. That’s crazy for all the talent that he has got. Seems like the people of Bengaluru and RCBians are excited for this man to perform for RCB. We know he can score big runs. It is a nightmare for the selectors. I hope RCB make a spot for him. He is a complete package and can win games at Chinnaswamy or anywhere he goes for RCB,” De Villiers was quoted as saying by India Today.

A formidable all-rounder’s rise to prominence
Jacks has been in scintillating form during the ongoing SA20 2024, amassing an impressive 177 runs from five innings at a striking strike rate of 184.37, including a century. Notably, his bowling prowess has been equally impactful, with five-wickets at an economy rate of 6.3, establishing him as a classy all-rounder.
Selection dilemma for RCB
Nevertheless, Jacks’ potential inclusion in the squad poses a compelling and challenging scenario for Bangalore. The team already boasts formidable firepower in the batting department, featuring stalwarts like Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell and others. Despite this, the star all-rounder’s recent stellar performances may prompt discussions within the team management, potentially paving the way for his selection in the RCB squad. If included, Jacks could play a pivotal role in the playing eleven, steering the team towards their elusive first title.
