Suryakumar Yadav to undergo another surgery; likely to miss starting matches of IPL 2024 – Reports

In a significant setback for the Indian cricket team, the dynamo Suryakumar Yadav will be going through another surgery, dealing a blow to the Men in Blue’s formidable batting lineup. Renowned for his aggressive yet composed style of play, The right-handed juggernaut is a pivotal instrument in India’s T20I campaigns.

Given his current status as the No.1 batter in the ICC T20I rankings, his absence will undoubtedly leave a void in the team. The Mumbai-born-cricketer’s ability to anchor the innings and play innovative shots has been a key asset for India, making him a significant performer in the shortest format of the game.

Suryakumar Yadav’s recent ankle surgery

Suryakumar encountered a significant impediment during the third and final T20I against South Africa in Johannesburg when he suffered an ankle injury. Subsequently, he underwent surgery to address the ailment, leading to his unavailability for the upcoming T20I series against Afghanistan. Notably, these impending matches hold heightened importance as they represent India’s final T20I series before the imminent T20I World Cup 2024, scheduled to be jointly hosted by USA and West Indies.

More troubles for Suryakumar

As per a recent report, Suryakumar is currently contending with sports hernia, necessitating surgical intervention at National Cricket Academy (NCA). The BCCI medical team has been diligently overseeing his condition, and indications suggest that he might undergo the required procedure at Munich, Germany. This unfortunate development is expected to keep him sidelined for a duration of approximately eight to nine weeks. The timing of this setback implies that the 33-year-old is anticipated to miss some of the starting encounters of IPL 2024.

“SKY (Suryakumar) was recently diagnosed with sports hernia. He is currently recuperating at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. In two-three days, he willfly for Munich, Germany, to get operated for it. It means that he certainly won’t be playing for Mumbai this season in the Ranji Trophy and is likely to miss the initial games for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL,” a source in the BCCI said, as quoted by Times of India.
