In a startling development, veteran Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) pacer Praveen Kumar has levied serious allegations against former IPL chairman Lalit Modi. The nature of these accusations has not been explicitly detailed, but they have raised eyebrows within the cricketing community. Praveen, known for his contributions to Indian cricket, has chosen to make these claims, prompting speculation and interest among fans and cricket enthusiasts alike.

Praveen Kumar shed light on why he wanted to play for Delhi in IPL 2008

In a recent revelation, Praveen brought attention to the inaugural season of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2008), where he unintentionally ended up representing RCB. He elaborated on the incident, stating the reason behind his will to play for Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) rather than RCB as Delhi was near his hometown (Meerut), and he did not like the food of Bengaluru.

“I did not want to play for RCB because Bangalore was quite far away from my place, I didn’t know English, and the food was not to my liking. Delhi is quite close to Meerut, which would have allowed me to travel to my home once in a while,” Praveen said in an interview with The Lallantop.

Praveen Kumar on Lalit Modi’s threat

However, according to the 37-year-old, an RCB official presented him with a document to sign, and he complied without awareness of its contractual nature. A significant twist unfolded When Praveen expressed his reluctance to join RCB and conveyed his desire to play for Delhi. Lalit allegedly intervened by calling the right-arm seamer and delivering a career-threatening warning, adding a layer of complexity to the circumstances surrounding player selections during that particular IPL season.

“There was a person (RCB official) who made me sign a paper. I did not know it was the contract. I told them I wanted to play for Delhi and not Bangalore. Lalit Modi called me and threatened to end my career,” the UP-based cricketer added.
