In a historic achievement, young Karnataka batter Prakhar Chaturvedi etched his name in cricketing annals by becoming the first player ever to score 400 runs in the Cooch Behar Trophy (CBT) Final, India‘s national four-day cricket tournament, against Mumbai on Monday, January 15.

Prakhar delivered a monumental performance, carrying his bat through the innings to remain unbeaten with an extraordinary 404 runs off 638 balls. This remarkable innings also saw him break India’s stalwart Yuvraj Singh‘s 24-year-standing record in the tournament.

Prakhar Chaturvedi outshines Yuvraj Singh’s 24-year-old record

Prakhar surpassed Yuvraj’s s 24-year-old record of 358 runs in the CBT. Yuvraj had set this record in 1999 with a triple century, amassing 40 boundaries and six sixes against Bihar, leading Punjab to 839. Yuvraj’s record stood for over two decades until Prakhar’s monumental knock.

Record-breaking innings

Prakhar’s incredible innings comprised 46 fours and three sixes. Opening the innings for Karnataka, he remained unbeaten as his team declared at an imposing total of 890/8 after 223 overs. This exceptional performance not only showcased Prakhar’s batting prowess but also demonstrated his resilience and concentration throughout the marathon innings.

In the game, Mumbai batted first and posted 380 runs. In response, Karnataka, fueled by Prakhar’s record-breaking knock, secured a substantial lead. The fixture although ended in a draw, however Karnataka were declared winner on the basis of humongous first innings lead.
