In an exciting encounter at Seddon Park, New Zealand emerged victorious against Pakistan in the second match of the Pakistan tour of New Zealand 2024. With the win, the hosts have also taken a 2-0 lead in the five-match series.

Finn Allen sizzles with destructive batting

The toss saw Pakistan opting to bowl first, setting the stage for an exciting showdown. New Zealand’s batting display was led by Finn Allen, who played a blistering innings of 74 runs off 41 balls, including 7 fours and 5 sixes. The captain, Kane Williamson, contributed with 26 runs, and Mitchell Santner‘s quickfire 25 off 13 balls propelled New Zealand to a challenging total of 194/8 in their 20 overs.

Pakistan’s bowling effort was led by Haris Rauf, who claimed three crucial wickets for 38 runs in his four overs. Abbas Afridi and Aamir Jamal also made significant contributions, securing two and one wicket(s) respectively. However, the bowlers faced a stern challenge from the Kiwi batters, with New Zealand setting a formidable target.

Adam Milne shines with the ball

Chasing 195 for victory, Pakistan’s innings was highlighted by the explosive performances of Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman. Babar  scored a magnificent 66 runs off 43 balls, while Fakhar played a scintillating knock of 50 runs off 25 balls, featuring 3 fours and 5 sixes. Despite their efforts, the rest of the batting order struggled to build partnerships, ultimately resulting in Pakistan being bowled out for 173 in 19.3 overs.

The New Zealand bowlers, spearheaded by Adam Milne‘s four-wicket haul for 33 runs, effectively defended their total. Tim Southee, Ben Sears, and Ish Sodhi also made crucial contributions with the ball, securing two wickets each. In the end, New Zealand emerged victorious by 21 runs, showcasing a well-rounded performance with both bat and ball.
