The U-19 World Cup 2024 featured three exhilarating fixtures that showcased the raw talent and competitive spirit of young cricketers from around the world on January 20. In a day filled with riveting clashes, India, England, and Pakistan emerged as victorious in their respective group matches, setting the stage for an enthralling tournament ahead.

India vs Bangladesh (Group A):

The 3rd Match of Group A at Mangaung Oval witnessed a battle between India Under-19s and Bangladesh Under-19s. Opting to bowl first, Bangladesh faced a challenging target of 252 runs set by India. Adarsh Singh‘s impressive knock of 76 runs and Uday Saharan‘s solid 64 contributed significantly to India’s total of 251/7.

Maruf Mridha’s exceptional 5-wicket haul kept Bangladesh in the game, but they fell short, managing only 167 runs. Saumy Pandey‘s impactful bowling with 4 wickets for 24 runs led India to a convincing 84-run victory. Adarsh and Saumy’s stellar performances earned India a strong position in Group A.

England vs Scotland (Group B):

In the 4th Match of Group B at Senwes Park, England Under-19s faced Scotland Under-19s. Opting to bowl, England restricted Scotland to 174 runs. Owen Gould‘s 48 and Jamie Dunk‘s 40 were the highlights for Scotland, but Farhan Ahmed and Luc Benkenstein‘s excellent bowling, both securing 3 wickets, limited the opposition.

England chased down the target comfortably in 26.2 overs, with Ben McKinney‘s outstanding 88-run innings leading the way. England secured a 7-wicket victory, and McKinney was rightfully awarded the Player of the Match for his match-winning contribution.

Pakistan vs Afghanistan (Group D):

The fifth match of Group D at Buffalo Park showcased a thrilling encounter between Pakistan Under-19s and Afghanistan Under-19s. Batting first, Pakistan posted a formidable total of 284/9, with Shahzaib Khan‘s brilliant century of 106 runs and Saad Baig‘s aggressive 55. Khalil Ahmed’s four-wicket haul for Afghanistan was a standout bowling performance.

In response, Afghanistan struggled to build partnerships, eventually getting bowled out for 103 runs. Pakistan’s Ubaid Shah and Mohammad Zeeshan shone with the ball, securing 4 and 3 wickets respectively. Pakistan emerged victorious, winning by a comprehensive margin of 181 runs.
