In a remarkable recognition of her outstanding contributions to Indian cricket, Deepti Sharma, the star all-rounder, was recently conferred with the coveted Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) post by the Uttar Pradesh government.

The prestigious honour was bestowed upon Deepti by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in a ceremony attended by key dignitaries, including India’s Sports Minister Anurag Thakur, deputy chief ministers Brajesh Pathak, and Keshav Prasad Maurya. This accolade marks a significant moment in Deepti’s illustrious career and underscores her excellence on the cricket field.

Deepti Sharma’s sporting achievements

Deepti’s journey to the DSP post is a testament to her exceptional cricketing skills and dedication to the sport. Having recently secured the Best International Cricketer – Women award for the years 2019-20 and 2022-23 at the BCCI Awards, Deepti’s prowess has consistently shone on the international stage. With an impressive record of 86 ODIs and 104 T20Is for India, she has bagged 100 and 113 wickets, respectively, showcasing her effectiveness with the ball.

In addition to her bowling exploits, Deepti has proven herself as a reliable batter, amassing over 1000 runs in both ODIs and T20Is. Her performances in Test cricket are equally commendable, with 16 wickets and 317 runs in just four games. Notably, Deepti played a pivotal role in India Women’s historic triumph at the Asian Games and contributed to the silver medal-winning squad at the Commonwealth Games last year.

The felicitation ceremony, graced by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Sports Minister Anurag Thakur, was a momentous occasion for Deepti. Recognizing her achievements and commitment to the nation, the Uttar Pradesh government presented her with the DSP post and a substantial reward of 3 crores.

Yogi Adityanath personally handed over the appointment letter from the UP Police to Deepti, symbolizing not only her athletic prowess but also her commitment to serving the community beyond the cricket field.
