The Sydney Cricket Ground witnessed a touching moment as Australian veteran opener David Warner, playing last match of his Test career, received a great gesture from Pakistan players on Day 1 of the third and final Test. Warner got the ‘Guard of Honor’ from the Pakistani players, who came out to bat with partner Usman Khawaja after Australia bundled out Pakistan for 313.

Warner made a symbolic entrance as before stepping onto the outfield, he paid tribute to the late Phillip Hughes, touching the mural in the dressing room. Warner then shared a heartfelt embrace with his childhood batting companion, Khawaja, before heading towards the crease.

Pakistan’s sporting gesture

As Warner prepared to face the final over of the day with Khawaja, the Pakistani team gave him a ‘Guard of Honor.’ Led by captain Shan Masood, the entire team formed two lines, applauding and showing respect to the departing Australian batter. Warner, visibly moved by the gesture, exchanged handshakes with the players before taking his position at the crease.

Pakistan set a competitive total

Earlier in the day, Pakistan put up a commendable performance with the bat, posting a total of 313 runs in 77.1 overs after opting to bat first. Despite losing early wickets, Mohammad Rizwan played a crucial innings, contributing 88 runs. Tailender Aamer Jamal‘s well-crafted 82 runs provided valuable support, helping Pakistan reach a challenging total.

Aussie skipper Pat Cummins emerged as the standout performer for Australia, claiming a remarkable five-wicket haul. Cummins led the bowling attack with precision, dismantling the Pakistani batting lineup. Fast bowler Mitchell Starc complemented Cummins with two crucial scalps.
