On Day 3 of the first Test match between Australia and the West Indies in Adelaide, a heartwarming display of sportsmanship unfolded as the Aussie stalwart Steve Smith exhibited a gesture of goodwill towards debutant Shamar Joseph. Despite being dismissed by Joseph in the first innings, Smith showcased his sportsman spirit by bending down to tie Joseph’s shoelaces.

As West Indies resumed their second innings with the overnight score at 76/6, the wickets continued to tumble. Joseph, making a memorable debut with the ball, found himself at the crease when the ninth wicket fell at a score of 94. Although the situation might not have been ideal for Joseph to come out and bat, the warm gesture from Smith made the moment unforgettable.

In the 34th over of West Indies’ second essay, after hitting a boundary off Josh Hazlewood, Joseph seemed to have untied his laces. Gesturing for help from the fielder, it was Smith who came forward and assisted the debutant. This act of sportsmanship resonated with the crowd, who applauded Smith as he returned to the slip region.

Joseph was eventually the last man to be dismissed in West Indies’ second innings, getting stumped for 15 off 12 against Nathan Lyon‘s delivery. West Indies bundled out for 120, and Australia successfully chased down the target of 26 in 6.4 overs.
