In a recent development, former South African cricketer AB de Villiers issued a clarification on Friday, seeking to address his earlier claim regarding Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma expecting their second child. This assertion had allegedly led to the star Indian batter missing the first two Tests against England.
Virat Kohli’s unforeseen Test break
When Kohli opted out of the initial Tests between India and England, speculation arose within the cricket fraternity about the reasons behind his decision. Kohli had cited “personal reasons” to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). However, De Villiers, a close friend of Kohli from the cricketing world, made a statement during a live session on his official YouTube channel, suggesting that Kohli was skipping the matches due to the anticipation of their second child.
AB de Villiers’ admission of error
Unfortunately, this statement quickly drew criticism from Indian cricket enthusiasts who questioned Kohli’s absence from crucial encounters. The legendary South African batter found himself subjected to trolling by fans for inadvertently sharing private information publicly. Now, Kohli’s former Indian Premier League (IPL) teammate has openly acknowledged his mistake, admitting to disseminating “false information.”
“Family comes first, it’s priority, as I said on my YouTube show. I also made a terrible mistake at the same time – Sharing false information, which was not true at all. So, I just think whatever space for Virat and his family comes first. No one knows what’s happening there. All I can do is wish him well and I think the whole world that follows Virat and enjoys his cricket, must just wish him well and whatever the reason is for this break, really hope that he comes back stronger and better and healthier and fresh and ready to take on the world again,” De Villiers said to Dainik Bhaskar.

Uncertainty surrounding Kohli’s return
The anticipation surrounding Kohli’s return for the remaining three Tests in the series, currently tied at one-all, adds an intriguing layer to the ongoing India-England Test series. The BCCI has maintained silence on Kohli’s availability, contributing to speculation that he might miss the entire five-match series. Kohli’s last appearance for India was in the Afghanistan T20I series in January this year. The uncertainty surrounding his participation further heightens the drama in this highly awaited cricketing contest.
