Cricket Australia (CA) has officially announced the 14-member Women’s squad that will represent the country in the upcoming one-off Test match against South Africa. The match is scheduled to commence on February 15 at the renowned WACA ground in Perth.
Sophie Molineux’s makes her comeback
A significant highlight of the squad announcement is the return of spin bowling all-rounder Sophie Molineux. Molineux’s inclusion comes after overcoming a series of injury setbacks, including a stress fracture in her foot that sidelined her during the 2022 Ashes and the ODI World Cup. Despite facing another setback with an ACL injury during the 2022 Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) season, Molineux’s recent performances for Victoria in the Women’s National Cricket League (WNCL) have been noteworthy, earning her a spot in the Test squad.
Key squad details
- Captaincy continues: Alyssa Healy will continue to lead the team as captain.
- Experienced lineup: The squad features familiar faces such as Ashleigh Gardner, Kim Garth, Jess Jonassen, Tahlia McGrath, Beth Mooney, Ellyse Perry, and Megan Schutt.
- New opportunities: The Test squad presents opportunities for players to showcase their skills in the longest format of the game.
Green vs Gold fixture
In addition to unveiling the Test squad, selectors have also named two squads for a ‘Green vs Gold’ three-day red-ball fixture. This initiative is part of an expanded Australia A programme aimed at providing players with more exposure to multi-day cricket. The fixture is set to take place at Karen Rolton Oval from March 5-7.
