England cricket team, currently on tour in India, has adopted a unique approach to communication, according to former skipper Joe Root. Root revealed that the team has moved away from traditional team meetings, opting instead for more informal conversations away from the game. He emphasized the importance of enjoying time together and having genuine discussions around activities like meals or coffee, which he believes foster better learning and team bonding.

“We don’t really do team meetings anymore. That’s one of the great things about how we do all of our conversations away from the game and just that enjoyment and buzz about spending time with each other. We don’t have to sit in a meeting room and I think it’s more authentic and more genuine when you can have it around a dinner table. Having a coffee in the morning or whatever, I think that’s when you do your best learning,” Root said while speaking to JioCinema.

‘Bazball’ backfires for England

Despite England’s efforts to implement their unique style of Test cricket, dubbed ‘Bazball,’ the strategy faced criticism after their loss to India in the second Test match at the Dr YS Rajashekar Reddy ACA-VDCA International Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam. Experts have argued that this unconventional approach backfired, leading to England’s defeat by 106 runs.

England return to Abu Dhabi base

Following the conclusion of the second Test, England have returned to their pre-series base in Abu Dhabi. The team aims to regroup and prepare for the upcoming fixtures with a renewed strategy, hoping to bounce back from their recent defeat.

Joe Root names two modern-day greats

During the conversation, Root acknowledged the prowess of two Indian cricketers, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, labeling them as the ‘two greats of the modern era.’ Root emphasized the importance of containing their influence in the ongoing Test series, recognizing their ability to score big runs and the significant role they play in the Indian batting lineup.

“You mentioned two of the greats of the modern era. Of course, there’s going to be focus. We know how good they are and they are also very senior within this current Indian batting lineup. So clearly they’ve got a big role to play within this Test team. You want to make sure that you try and get on top of them early. They’ve got the ability to get big scores and we’ve been on the wrong end of that a few times, so it would be nice to try and keep them as quiet as we can throughout the series,” Root added.
