Indian cricketer Ishan Kishan has sparked controversy by defying the advice of coach Rahul Dravid, opting to train with the Pandya brothers for the upcoming IPL 2024 season.

Kishan, who is known for his explosive batting and wicketkeeping skills, reportedly chose to train with Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya despite Dravid’s recommendations for a different training regime.

After the return of Indian contingent from their South Africa, Dravid stated that the management respects Ishan’s decision to take a break from international cricket due to mental fatigue, mentioning the left-handed batter will be back in the team only if he proves his fitness in a first-class match. But Ishan did not follow Dravid’s words and continued to skip the ongoing Ranji Trophy matches.

Rather, the Jharkhand-lad decided to train along side Pandya brothers at the Reliance Stadium in Baroda.

Ishan’s decision has raised eyebrows within cricketing circles, with speculation rife about the implications for the 24-year-old ‘s relationship with the coaching staff.

Ishan may lose his annual contract with BCCI

According to media reports, Ishan’s continued absence from the national team can have potential implications on his BCCI central contract. Currently placed in Grade C, Ishan receives an annual retainership amount of INR 1 crore.

As the IPL 2024 season draws closer, all eyes will be on Ishan to see how his decision to train with his Mumbai Indians (MI) new-appointed captain translates into on-field success.
