The ongoing Test series between India and England has kept cricket enthusiasts on the edge of their seats. With two Tests down, each team has claimed victory once, leaving the series evenly poised at 1-1. As anticipation builds for the third Test starting on February 15 in Ranchi, recent reports suggest a potential setback for Team India.

Virat Kohli’s absence raises questions

Star cricketer Virat Kohli, who missed the first two Tests, might extend his hiatus from the series. Media speculations indicate that Kohli could be absent not only for the upcoming third Test but also for the fourth encounter. Additionally, doubts linger regarding his availability for the fifth Test scheduled in Dharmasala.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced Kohli’s absence from the initial matches on January 22, citing ‘personal reasons.’ Kohli briefly joined the Indian squad in Hyderabad before promptly departing the same day. However, the BCCI has remained mum on any further updates regarding his status.

Nasser Hussain’s perspective

Nasser Hussain, the former England captain turned renowned cricket broadcaster, has weighed in on Kohli’s situation. In a recent statement on Sky Sports, Nasser expressed his support for Kohli’s decision to prioritize his personal life. He acknowledged Kohli’s lengthy tenure in international cricket, spanning over 15 years, and stressed the significance of granting the player a much-needed break.

“The game needs to look after the likes of Virat Kohli as well. He has been playing international cricket for more than 15 years now, and if he needs a break to be away with family, (to) get some time away from the game, we absolutely wish Virat Kohli all the best,” Nasser said on Sky Sports.

Nasser’s well wishes for Kohli

Despite the potential absence of Kohli from the upcoming Tests, Hussain conveyed his best wishes to the Indian cricketer and his family. While acknowledging the disappointment of missing out on anticipated matchups like Kohli versus James Anderson, Hussain reiterated the paramountcy of family and personal matters.

“If it means we don’t get the mouth-watering possibility of an Anderson versus Kohli contest that we have seen over the years, then so be it. But Kohli and his family and his private life has to come first,” added Nasser.
