In a riveting encounter during the 14th match of the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) season, Lahore Qalandars clashed with Multan Sultans at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium. Unfortunately for Lahore, this match marked their sixth consecutive defeat of the season, with Multan registering a convincing victory by a substantial margin of 60 runs.

Shahid Afridi’s perfect delivery to Mohammad Rizwan

The standout moment of the game was delivered by Lahore’s captain, Shaheen Afridi. In the very first over, Afridi bowled a perfect inswinger that dismissed the Multan’s captain, Mohammad Rizwan, on the fifth ball. The hard length and the nip-back delivery caught Rizwan off guard, resulting in an inside edge onto the stumps. Afridi celebrated in his trademark style, leaving Rizwan to make his way back to the pavilion in disappointment.

Usman Khan’s brilliance propels Multan Sultans

Despite this early setback, Multan dominated the match, primarily due to an outstanding innings from Usman Khan. His brilliant knock of 96 runs off 55 balls, including 11 fours and two sixes, was ably supported by Reeza Hendricks (40) and Iftikhar Ahmed (40*). Together, they propelled Sultans to a formidable score of 214/4 in their 20 overs.

In response, Lahore’s top-five batters all made decent starts but failed to convert them into substantial innings. Despite reaching 154 runs in just 17 overs, they lost all their wickets, resulting in a significant 60 runs defeat. Usama Mir emerged as the hero for Multan, picking an impressive six-wicket haul.

Playoff hopes dwindle for the Qalandars

With this victory, Multan  secured their fifth win of the season, placing them at the top of the points table with 10 points from six matches. On the other hand, Lahore find themselves at the bottom of the table with six consecutive losses, making their playoff chances increasingly slim.
