The second day of the fourth Test between India and England at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi concluded with England firmly in control. Building upon their first-day performance, the tourists wrapped up their first innings with a respectable total before their bowlers took charge, stifling the Indian batting lineup.

Shoaib Bashir sizzles with brilliant 4-fer

Shoaib Bashir emerged as the hero for England with a stellar bowling performance, claiming four crucial wickets. His figures of 32-4-84-4, with an exceptional streak of 31 consecutive overs, were truly remarkable.

Bashir’s spell has put England in a commanding position in the Test match. Despite a brief resistance from Dhruv Jurel and Kuldeep Yadav, who put together a 41-run partnership for the eighth wicket, England holds a significant lead of 135 runs on a challenging pitch.

Tom Hartley provided valuable support to Bashir, securing two wickets while conceding 47 runs in his 19 overs, including 5 maidens.

Despite the fall of wickets at regular intervals, the left-handed opener showcased resilience, consistently finding boundaries to keep the scoreboard ticking. Jaiswal’s brilliant innings of 73 runs off 117 balls, featuring 8 fours and a six, was eventually halted by Bashir, who claimed his fourth wicket of the day.

Joe Root continues to lead from the front
