Marizanne Kapp cleans up Beth Mooeny

The second ODI of the three-match series between Australia Women and South Africa Women turned out to be a thrilling affair where the visitors registered a convincing 80-run victory. Although the match witnessed quite a few memorable moments, it was veteran Marizanne Kapp‘s delivery to dismiss Beth Mooney that fascinated the fans most.

Marizanne Kapp powers South Africa to a respected total

After being asked to bat first, the Proteas managed to reach 229/6 in the contest which was reduced to 45 overs due to rain. Kapp was the chief striker with the bat as she stood her ground despite wickets falling from the other end and took South Africa to a respectable total.

Kapp showed her class with the bat as she went on to smash 75 runs from 87 deliveries with the help of 12 boundaries. Apart from Kapp, Anneke Bosch and Chloe Tryon also chipped in with crucial contributions. While Bosch scored 44 off 46 balls, Tyron remained unbeaten with a 37-run knock.

Kapp’s impact with the ball

Chasing a target of 234 runs, Australia faltered and were bowled out for just 149 runs in 29.3 overs. Despite resistance from Ashleigh Gardner and Kim Garth, South Africa’s bowling attack, led by Marizanne Kapp, proved too strong for the Australian batting lineup. Kapp showcased her all-round brilliance by claiming three crucial wickets, including the dismissals of both openers Alyssa Healy and Mooney.

The unforgettable delivery

Kapp’s dismissal of Mooney quickly became the major talking point. On the third ball of the fifth over, Kapp delivered a sensational nip-backer that completely deceived Mooney. The ball pitched on a good length before sharply turning back in, breaching Mooney’s defenses and crashing into the stumps, leaving the Australian batter stunned.
