Brett Lee’s prediction
Lee, who has experience of winning the coveted trophy in 2012 with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), exuded confidence in Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). He acknowledged RCB as perennial favourites for the title due to the formidable squad they possess. However, the former World Cup winner strongly believed that this season might be the one where everything falls into place perfectly for them.
“I was going through the list of teams, and I actually think that the RCB has a very good chance this year. I will be backing them. They arguably have had the best side for a number of years. But, there’s maybe a different way that they are playing. There are a lot of superstitions in India. With the team changing its name, and the colour of the jersey, this might just be their year,” Lee said.
Challanges ahead of the new edition
Despite boasting one of the most star-studded lineups over the past 16 years, RCB have only managed to secure the IPL trophy once. Despite reaching the final on several occasions, they’ve often faltered under pressure, leading to disappointment. Now, with stalwarts like Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell, they are determined to address their past shortcomings under the leadership of Faf du Plessis. Their quest for redemption will kick off with a showdown against MS Dhoni‘s CSK in the tournament opener on March 22.
