Team India secured a resounding victory against England in the fifth and final Test match, wrapping up the series with a commanding 4-1 scoreline. The picturesque Himanchal Pradesh Cricket Association in Dharamsala witnessed India’s dominant display as they clinched a memorable win by an innings and 64 runs.

Introduction of Test Cricket Incentive Scheme

Following the conclusion of the thrilling Test match, Jay Shah, the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), made a significant announcement regarding the introduction of a “Test Cricket Incentive Scheme.” The scheme is designed to provide financial incentives to players who prioritize the red-ball format.

In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), Shah expressed his pleasure in initiating the scheme, emphasizing its aim to foster financial growth and stability for the esteemed athletes. The Test Cricket Incentive Scheme will commence from the 2022-23 season and will serve as an additional reward structure on top of the existing match fee for Test matches, which is currently set at INR 15 lakhs.

“I am pleased to announce the initiation of the ‘Test Cricket Incentive Scheme’ for Senior Men, a step aimed at providing financial growth and stability to our esteemed athletes. Commencing from the 2022-23 season, the ‘Test Cricket Incentive Scheme’ will serve as an additional reward structure on top of the existing match fee for Test matches, set at INR 15 lakhs,” wrote Shah on X.

Stellar performances highlight victory

Ravichandran Ashwin‘s exceptional performance with the ball stood out during India’s triumph in the fifth Test. Ashwin, with his 36th five-wicket haul in Tests, played a pivotal role in India’s clinical bowling display, claiming figures of 5/77. Notably, he achieved this milestone in his 100th Test match, becoming only the fourth bowler in history to achieve a fifer in the landmark match.

Joe Root‘s valiant effort for England in their second innings, scoring 84 runs, was commendable amidst India’s dominant display. However, England’s batting lineup struggled against India’s bowling attack, with Kuldeep Yadav’s five-wicket haul in the first innings and a notable contribution of two wickets in the second essay earning him the Player of the Match award.

Individual accolades

Yashasvi Jaiswal, India’s young batting sensation, was named the Player of the Series for his outstanding performances throughout the five-match series. Jaiswal amassed an impressive total of 712 runs at a remarkable average of 89, including two centuries and three half-centuries, showcasing his prowess with the bat.
