As the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 approaches, all the teams are busy preparing strategies for the world’s most significant cricket league. The impact player rule introduced last year provided teams with good options to manage talents in the squad, and they will now once again be looking to use this to their advantage according to the situation in the upcoming event.

What is impact player rule?

While the rule might look like a provision for substituting players mid-match, it comes with certain restrictions and guidelines. Notably, an overseas player can only be brought on as a substitute if the teams don’t feature four foreigners in their playing 11; otherwise, only Indian players can come in as an impact player. Additionally, an impact player can be introduced into the game before the start of the innings or after the completion of an over. He also needs to be called before the 14th over in an inning.

One player from each team who could impress as impact player

As the IPL 2024 comes closer, fans are curious to know about players who could be a game-changer for the various 10 teams as impact players in the league. On that note, here is one player from each team who could impress as an impact player:

CSK – Sameer Rizvi

Chennai Super King’s new recruit Sameer Rizvi can be the perfect choice for an impact player in chasing situations for CSK. The Indian power-hitter is known for his six-hitting abilities and could cross the boundary line with flair. Sameer had a stellar UPT20 league last year and amassed 455 runs in just nine innings for Kanpur Superstars. He can be a dark horse and a game-changer for CSK in tough situations.

RCB – Vyshak Vijaykumar

Vijay Kumar Vishak could be an ideal impact player for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in IPL 2024. His handy bowling abilities could be used by RCB during bowling to provide an additional option to their unit. Vyshak had a decent last year season where he picked nine wickets in seven games and even appeared as an impact player on numerous occasions.

MI – Akash Madhwal

Akash Madhwal had an impressive outing for Mumbai Indians (MI) in IPL 2023 and managed to pick 14 wickets in just eight games with best figures of 5/5. Now as Mumbai will see the return of Jasprit Bumrah who missed last year’s IPL, Madhwal can complement the side’s formidable bowling unit as an impact player during MI’s second innings.

SRH – Mayank Markande

Mayank Markande picked 12 wickets for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in 10 games last year. With a huge pool of talented players, Mayank might not be able to feature in the initial eleven of the Hyderabad-based side, but he could definitely weave his magic with spin as an impact player for the side.

GT – Sai Sudharsan
